Japan approves the cultivation of human organs in animals for organ transplantation

Original title: Japan wants to approve the cultivation of human organs in animals

According to a report by the Kyodo News Agency on the 28th, the Japanese government's special survey on bioethics approved researchers to cultivate human organs in animals. The matter will be formally approved at the comprehensive science and technology innovation conference held after the Japanese government, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will revise the relevant indicators by the spring of next year.

The report said that the study is expected to be used for organ transplantation. It is envisaged that researchers will inject human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) into fertilized eggs of animals such as pigs to create animals that are mixed with human cells. The human organs cultivated in this animal will be used for transplantation, and the animal itself can be used for drug development.

The amendment will develop measures to prevent research from producing organisms that are difficult to judge as humans or animals. At the same time, the amendment will also make the following provisions: The embryos produced by the study are not allowed to be transplanted into the human uterus, and the animals produced are not allowed to mate. All of the above can only be used for reasonable scientific research.

In this regard, Takahashi Shinichi, honorary director of the National Center for Mental and Neuromedical Research in Japan, believes that “there is still misunderstanding and concern in the national consciousness, so it is very important for researchers to advance the research in stages and to make it clear that the content is important.
