South Korea wants to revoke sanctions against the DPRK? Trump: We don't agree, they won't do it.

Reference News Network reported on October 12 New media said that US President Trump stressed that without the consent of the United States, South Korea will not lift sanctions against North Korea. The South Korean Unification Ministry also indicated that South Korea will not revoke the sanctions imposed after North Korea’s sinking of the Korean warship in 2010.

According to Singapore’s report on October 12, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Jing and the respondent in the parliament on the 10th in the parliament, said that South Korea is reviewing certain sanctions against the DPRK. She hinted that South Korea is considering relaxing sanctions on its own to encourage North Korea to denuclearize.

The report said that after these words led to criticism from some conservatives, Kang Jing and changed the name that North Korea should first apologize for the attack eight years ago. In March 2010, the South Korean "Cheonan" frigate was sunk, resulting in the death of 46 South Korean sailors. South Korea imposed unilateral sanctions on North Korea and banned most bilateral trade and exchanges. North Korea has always denied that this was done by the DPRK.

The media later asked Trump about the speech of the ROK Foreign Minister. Trump said: "Without our consent, they will not do this. Without our consent, they will not do anything."

The report pointed out that Trump’s opposition to South Korea’s separate relaxation of sanctions reflects the fact that the United States wants South Korea to maintain its official stance on the North Korean issue. One of Trump’s “extreme pressure” strategy toward the DPRK is to encourage allies to continue to impose sanctions on North Korea until it abandons nuclear.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry said on the 11th that it has clarified the above situation to the US through the US Embassy in Korea.

South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Gude said at a regular press conference on the same day that North Korea’s denuclearization will make it possible to relax sanctions against North Korea. South Korea will maintain close consultations with relevant countries on the basis of North Korea’s denuclearization.

The Korean media quoted diplomats as saying that Trump is likely to make the above statement after listening to the instructions of the Korean government. Ruguid did not want to comment on this. He only said that South Korea and the United States maintained close communication on the complete denuclearization of the peninsula and the establishment of a permanent peace mechanism.

The report said that the South Korean Foreign Ministry explained on the 10th that after Kangjing and said that it would lift the "5.24 measures", the government did not formally consider lifting the economic sanctions at this stage. The "5·24 sanctions against the DPRK" was a unilateral sanctions by the ROK against the DPRK after the "Tianan" incident.

The report pointed out that the relationship between South Korea and North Korea has continued to warm up since the beginning of this year, and South Korea’s internal calls for relaxation of sanctions against the DPRK are getting higher and higher. However, the US attitude is tough.

According to the report, Kang Jing and the parliament revealed that US Secretary of State Pompeo expressed "discontent" with a military agreement reached last month. These remarks have rarably confirmed that the United States and South Korea have differences on the issue of the DPRK.
