Overseas network July 31, a new round of large-scale protests in Maharashtra, India, protesters attacked buses, interrupted railway services, blocked several highways, and even one protester committed suicide. In the 30-day local protest, only 100 cars were burned down. Local police said that violent behaviors such as burning cars are suspected of having anti-social factors and are premeditated actions.

According to "India Today", the Marathi protesters have launched a new round of "silent protests" in Maharashtra in order to safeguard the rights of the people in employment and education. The protests have now entered the 8th day. On July 30 alone, about 100 vehicles were burned, including at least 6 buses. The glass window of the Chagan Police Department was smashed by stones, and vehicles parked outside the police station were also burned or damaged by stones. One police branch director and five police officers were injured and one of them was head injured.

The police in Pune, the second largest city in Maharashtra, said the protesters used iron bars, wooden sticks and some kind of fuel to ignite the car. It seemed to be a premeditated attack. Police said the violent elements were distributed in four locations in the Chagan area, while protests took place at the main junction of the Pune-Nashik Expressway. A protest organizer said that they saw a group of unknown young people sitting there and then began encouraging others to gather to carry out violent acts.

Sandeep Patil, who was on duty Monday morning (30th) local time, said, “At first, it was difficult for the police to control the mobs who beat the vehicles. However, colleagues from other police stations quickly came to support and gradually controlled the situation. Soon after, the troublemakers created the largest violence in the past 45 days, and the national reserve police force was notified and dispatched to areas of tension."
