Overseas Network October 3rd Local time October 3rd, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded to American scientists Frances H. Arnold, George P. Smith and the United Kingdom. Scientist Gregory P. Winter, in recognition of their achievements in the directed evolution of enzymes, peptides and phage display technology.

Frances Hamilton Arnold is an American scientist and engineer. She pioneered a method of directed evolution to create useful biological systems, including enzymes, metabolic pathways, gene regulatory circuits, and organisms. She is Professor Linus Pauling of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering and Biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology, where she studies evolution and its applications in science, medicine, chemistry, and energy.

Sir Gregory P. Winter, a British biochemist, a pioneer in therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. He invented "anthropomorphic" and fully anthropomorphic phage display technologies, as well as related techniques for antibodies for therapeutic use. He is a member of Trinity College, University of Cambridge, England. In 1985,

The phage display was first proposed by George P. Smith, a member of the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Medical Research Council responsible for the Protein and Nucleic Acids Division.

According to the Nobel Prize official website, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and began in 1901 in recognition of “the person who made the most important discoveries or inventions in the field of chemistry”.

Chemistry is the most dependent science in the life of Nobel Prize-winning founder Alfred Nobel, and his inventions and accumulated wealth have benefited from chemistry. In 1895, Nobel made a will, taking out 31 million Swedish kronor from his personal wealth as a fund to establish a Nobel Prize to reward those who made important contributions in several major scientific fields. Among the wills, he placed the Chemistry Prize second, second only to the Physics Prize.

From 1901 to 2017, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded 109 times and has 178 winners. In 1911, Mrs. Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and became the first person in history to win the Nobel Prize twice. British scholar Frederick Sanger is the only biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry twice.

On October 4, 2017, the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Swiss scientist Jacques Dubocher, American scientist Joachim Frank and British scientist Richard Henderson for their recognition in cryomicroscopy. The contribution of the field.
